Before you begin
Files access is granted through the system picker. A file provider may need its own account or internet connection. Optional Syncthing connections may require Local Network permission and share data with the peers you configure.
Write your first document
- On the Treo home screen, tap +.
- Enter text in the new document.
- Tap Done.
What to expect. A new Untitled.md document is saved in Treo’s Documents folder and its preview is shown. If that name is already in use, the new file gets a numbered name.
Edit and check your Markdown
- On the home screen, tap Browse.
- Choose a Markdown or text document in the Files picker.
- Tap Edit if the document is not already open for editing.
- Change the text or Markdown formatting.
- Use Undo or Redo if you need to adjust an edit.
- Tap Done.
What to expect. The preview reflects the saved text. If saving fails, the editor remains open and an error is shown. Task checkboxes in a Markdown preview can also update and save the corresponding source item.
Set up your reading view and reopen a missing file
- Open Settings using the gear button.
- Choose System, Light, or Dark under Theme.
- Adjust Preview Font Size.
- Adjust Editor Font Size.
- Choose Preview or Edit under Default Open Mode.
- Tap Done.
- If a recent file does not open, tap Browse on the home screen.
- Select the file again in the Files picker.
- When you need diagnostic information, open Settings.
- Choose Export Logs.
What to expect. The app uses the selected appearance and opening mode. Files stored by a provider may require that provider’s access or network connection. Clear Recent Files removes the recent list, not the original documents.
Connect to an optional Syncthing peer
- Have a Syncthing peer you control and its shared-folder IDs ready.
- Open Settings.
- Turn on Enable Syncthing.
- Tap Copy Device ID.
- Add Treo’s device ID to the trusted devices on the peer.
- Configure the peer to share the intended folders with Treo.
- Enter the peer’s hostname or address in Peer Host.
- Enter the peer’s listening port in Peer Port.
- Enter the shared-folder IDs in Shared Folder IDs.
- Set Enable Local Discovery if you want local discovery.
- Set Enable Global Discovery if you want global discovery.
- Set Enable Relay if you want relay connections.
- Tap Connect & Probe.
- Inspect the connection status.
- Tap Stop Probe when you want to stop the connection.
What to expect. Connection status shows whether the peer can be reached and shared-folder information exchanged. A folder ID is not a device ID. Local connections may require the iOS Local Network permission. Disabling Syncthing preserves saved connection settings. Actual connectivity depends on the peer and network.
If something goes wrong
A recent file will not open?
Use Browse to locate it again and renew access. Check that its file provider is available.
A change will not save?
Keep the editor open and review the displayed error. Check the file location and provider connection before trying again.
Keeping or sharing a copy?
Use Share File or Duplicate. Clear Recent Files clears the list, not the documents. Settings → Export Logs provides diagnostic information.
Local-network connection denied?
Review Treo’s Local Network permission in the iOS Settings app, then retry Connect & Probe in Treo’s Settings. Confirm the peer is reachable and shares the same folder IDs.
